2006

LONDON & SOUTH EAST CHAMPIONSHIP

8th October 2006

This was held at Rosehill Equestrian Centre near Henley- on – Thames
Report by Claire Shoesmith

The club had qualified a team for the Dressage Competition. It was also offered a team place in the Riding Test and the Horse Trials but due to the short notice we were unfortunately only able to send a team of 3 for the Dressage and Riding Test. Kirsty Lewis and Diamond Franco had to pull out as Franco was poorly. We wish Franco a speedy recovery and look forward to them joining the teams again in the New Year.

The team was:

Claire Shoesmith on The Harlequin
Alison Jones on G Sharp
Linda Westcombe on Axel Van Gertehoeve
( who had very kindly stepped in as a reserve
.)
The event was held at Henley on Thames which is in Area 6. It was a long way away and I myself was competing in the morning. I was very lucky though because Rocky was able to come with me which meant I didn't have to go all that way on my own. Thanks Rocky. Harley had been bathed, clipped and plaited and looked very smart.
It was a lovely sunny day and we arrived in plenty of time. I have to say that it wasn't the best organised event I have been to and everything was fairly spaced out. The Dressage and Riding Test were a fair distance from the lorry park, they were not well signposted and you had to hack through parts of the cross country course.
I competed in the morning and there were 4 arena's using one school for warming up, which was water logged down one end so needless to say it was a bit tight.
I was pleased with some of my marks. But it was a very tough competition and the team was unfortunately not placed this year.
I would also like to thank Diana Blackman and Lorraine Williams who drove all that way to help, as it was not possible for the team to compete without sending two helpers.

BRITISH RIDING CLUB AREA 10 HUNTER TRIAL QUALIFIER FOR 2007
Sunday 15th October
This was held at at Lodge Farm, Matfield
We sent one novice team of :

Vanessa Nunn & Herbert The Horrible
Claire Shoesmith & The Harlequin
Janet Beck & Rivanti Free Spirit
Tony Cross & Arnie

It was a wonderfully sunny day and the ground was perfect, one of the advantages of Lodge Farm is that you can see quite a bit of the course from the start field.

First of our team to go was Vanessa. Herbert has not competed much this year with Vanessa as she has been very busy with her children and their show ponies. Unfortunately they had a few stops around the course and were eliminated but did complete the course.

Next to go was Claire with Harley they produced their usual reliable clear and only collected 9.2 time penalties.

Janet and Mish had an uncharacteristic stop at the trakehner and then whizzed around the rest of the course, but the stop caused them to have 10 time penalties and 20 jumping

Tony and Arnie got a little confused and nearly took the wrong course at fence 3 but returned to jump in the correct order, unfortunately the detour cost them 18 time penalties this gave the team a combined score of 57.2 and put them in sixth place. The team in fifth had 30 penalties so they all would have needed to do quite a lot to catch them and the winning team had only 8.4 penalties

The team’s grateful thanks to Linda Westcombe, Annette Valance and Jane Hughes for fence judging, without the support of helpers our teams would not be able to compete

Well done to those who competed and supported. Sadly the teams did not fare as well as the previous year with the Novice team just missing out on the ribbons as although they had the same faults as the 5th placed team they were just a bit too slow and came a creditable 7th.

HORSE TRIALS : 20th May, 2006 South of England Showground, Ardingly
Report by Di Baker

Area 10 Liaison Committee Friendly Show Jumping - Teams of 3   at Golden Cross
 28th January 2006

There were 23 Senior Teams.and the event was well run by Hailsham Riding Club. Although the weather was dry it was extremely cold and thermals were definately needed.

The club was well represented by 3 teams and because it was a friendly competition, riders were restricted to the amount of money they had won, allowing some of our members who are not usually eligable,  to compete.

The three teams were:

Team 1
Vanessa Nunn
Herbert the Horrible
1st Round     :          Clear
2nd Round    :          4 Faults
Claire Shoesmith
The Harlequin
1st Round     :          Clear
2nd Round    :          4 Faults
Kirsty Lewis
Franco
1st Round     :Clear
2nd Round    :  Clear
3rd Individually

Each of them went clear in the first round which meant they were guaranteed at least 5th place
as only 5 teams were in this position. The team then had to jump off and unfortunately
Vanessa and Claire picked up 4 faults each with Kirsty going clear.
The team ended up 4th overall with Kirsty taking 3rd place as an individual. Well done !

Team 2
Sally Wheeler
Simply Simon
The team did very well but unfortunately some
of them had faults in the first round.
Jill Taylor
Socca Step
Di Blackman
What not
Team 3
Wendy Sutton
Donegal Bay
This team also did very well but Leeroy seemed
to think there was a monster hiding in the
double and would not be persuaded otherwise.
Hayley Thomas
Leeroy Brown
Natasha Stevens
Little Chink
Our thanks goes to all those who gave up their time to help and support the club.
