Area 10 Horse Trials - Borde Hill
Photographs can be seen at www.animalimages.org.uk

Battle came 3rd, only beaten by 0.5 from second and 0.7 to first so really close.
Sally Wheeler and Simply Simon came second individually.
Kirsty Lewis and Janet Beck each came 7th in their arenas and Natasha Stephens 10th.

Whichever scores we used, we would still have been in 3rd place as 4th was 128 to our 119.4 total penalties to count.

A beautiful day this year and Borde Hill is a lovely venue, and grateful thanks to our helpers Claire Shoesmith and Di Blackman, as without them our team would not have been able to compete. I don't count towards the helpers unless I have to, as I am also the area 10 Chairman. This is a bit difficult sometimes as we do have to not only provide the right number of helpers but also be seen to do so!

Some other clubs are universally unpopular as they don't pull their weight in area competitions but fortunately not us. The team can and will be stopped from competing if the helpers are not there on the day.

If anyone does have a spare few hours when area qualifiers are running please volunteer. To help you will only be given a job within your comfort zone - help and back up is always there. It is actually quite fun as well!

Well there goes the third we’ve organised! The whole event seems to have gone off extremely well at Oakfield Park which was a superb venue. Dressage on grass has never been so easy! Virtually all the judges were very complimentary about how professionally the show was run – so thanks to all helpers who were marvellous. Below is one email we had from another club. It is always good to know that efforts were appreciated.

“Thank you so much for a well organised show on Saturday, all of my team members that attended commented on how well it was run and that the scores were up so quickly.  Also the gentleman that was stewarding on the main gate was so helpful - especially as my husband got lost getting there with the horse.

The venue was really nice as well - as it was all close together - it made stewarding the arenas very easy as you could see your arena and the warm up.”

Our Dressage teams did very well this year with pleasing results as Battle 1 Novice qualified being placed 4th, with Battle 2 Novice in 7th place, not qualifying but on the reserve for the London and South East Championships. The Open team also did very well in coming 7th. All details are on the website of course but below are the competitors results – well done all!

Area 10 Novice Indoor Show Jumping - Duckhurst Farm - Sat 17 Nov

Unfortunately our team of three turned into a team of 2 when The Gas Board dug up the lane outside Tony’s Farm and he couldn’t get the lorry out. The organizers kindly allowed Sally and Vanessa to jump a round after the effort of getting there but as it is a team only competition -- that was it!!…

Area 10 Winter Dressage teams-Ardingly - Sun 3 Feb

Well what a day! Howling wind and freezing cold – the intrepid few went forth to compete! Actually Battle did have two teams for this event which is great considering the weather conditions up to and on the day. The Battle was fought ( forgive the pun) and sadly lost but not disgraced. Vanessa Nunn was 6th as an individual on Herbert the Horrible so well done to her. All results are on the Area 10 website.
