BSEN14572 is the next standard to be introduced, which is intended to run alongside EN 1834.( Greater protection is considered to be offered by prefixes PAS & ASTM.)
When mounted, everyone must wear a correctly adjusted and fastened hat.

GENERAL

A WORD ABOUT VENUES
Thanks to those who responded to our request for additional venues. We shall be trialing different places and would still like to hear from anybody who has or knows of an indoor arena that may be available. Contact Di Baker or Linda.

We are actively looking for different venues to complement those we already use by kind permission of their owners. We’re aware that we have a wide geographic area and that sometimes it is difficult for members to get to the venues that we use regularly. If you know of any near you that have good surfaces, easy access and parking for lorries and trailers, indoor or outdoor facilities we’d like to hear from you.

Practice sessions are held for each discipline at our regular venues which are chosen for ease of access and friendly low-key atmospheres. For cross country and show jumping practice sessions contact Di Blackman so she can understand what height you want to do and can then choose the right venue to suit your need.

REGULAR VENUES WE USE AND HOW TO GET TO THEM:

Glovers Farm: Directions/parking: from the A269 Ninfield Road, turn up Glovers Lane which is opposite a parade of shops. Follow along through quite a built up area to the end. Go across the bridge and drive straight through the yard to car park. Easy parking, plenty of space and easy turning

Church Farm: Directions/parking; Church Farm, Church Road Catsfield. From centre of Catsfield turn up road opposite post office and White Hart pub. Follow road along past village hall and church, passing Potmans Lane on the right. Shortly along on the left is drive for Church Farm. A row of terraced houses runs parallel with drive. Easy parking in yard and good turning space.

St Francis Farm: Directions /parking - very easy 1/2 mile from the main Bexhill road (A 271/A269), turning left at Lunsford Cross. Heaps of turning space.

Wilton House: Directions /parking – Catsfield. Very easy parking and turning.
( Call Di Blackman for specific directions)

Mountfield: Directions /parking – Just outside Battle off the A2100. Easy parking.
( Call Di Blackman for specific directions)

We are happy to look at other venues of course and welcome any ideas you may have or if any of you have facilities indoor or outdoor.

A new competition season approaches.
Pegasus – the free monthly equestrian magazine, will have a full year’s list of events in their March issue (available from 1st March).

It will also have details of the new ACHIEVEMENT LOG in which you can record EVERY competition/ show your horse enters. The log is for the lifetime of the horse.

There are also two award schemes you can enter.

The Achievement Award is based on a points score awarded whenever you take part , and you need to have the event secretary sign your log to validate the entry. There are bonus points awarded for being placed (1st  to 6th). Simply submit you log covering any 12 month period. The start date is entirely your choice. The rosettes are awarded on your achieving a set number of points, the more points the more tiers on the rosette.

The Performance Award is for the top point scorers in each of the categories who have submitted their log for the Achievement Award scheme during the year ending on the 31st March each year. The first awards will be made in 2009.

The money raised from the scheme is going towards helping Canterbury Horse Rescue (Registered Charity No. 1101452).

Prices for the lifetime Achievement Log £17.50

For horses with a Pet-iD Horse Passport £12.50

These prices include your first year’s entry into the two Award schemes and Post Packing to any UK mainland address.

Annual Charity Ride & Walk
20th September 2008
We have raised over £50,000 for various local and national charities since we took over the event a few years ago.  This years Charity is the Sussex Air Ambulance - which we feel is a very worthy cause.
We offer a 12 mile course over beautiful brookland near Lewes. The course has a jumping and non-jumping route.  The fences are rustic and some in natural fence lines and range from small logs to a couple of hedges and tiger traps. All are optional and clearly marked.

We also have a 5 mile dog walk for those partners who may come as drivers and not wish to ride!

We do our own catering and offer a delicious BBQ and home made cakes, plus a half way house selling cold drinks, chocolate and something stronger for those that feel like a tipple!

HORSE BEHAVIOUR DEMO BY ALI CHEW

We are planning this in September and will let you know the venue and date when finalized. Ali is a qualified Animal Behaviour Counsellor and, although she works with all animals, specialises in horses. Her work is as a clinical animal behaviourist, helping people sort out their animals’ behavioural issues, and also as a trainer, helping people to get the best out of their animals. Ali’s approach to behaviour modification and training is based on up-to-date, sound scientific principles and is non-confrontational, using positive reinforcement as a key tool. If you have a ‘guinea pig’ with problems or issues you need help with,
contact Linda to participate
.
Viewing will be charged at £5 per person.

More events and clinics will be arranged – but do shout if you want any discipline in particular – happy to arrange as always!

FLU CERTIFICATES NEED CHECKING FOR AREA EVENTS

If you wish to represent Battle in the Area 10 2008 Qualifiers then you need to make sure your horse’s Flu Certificate is correct (we can check it for you), we also need a copy of it. A list of your Equine qualifications is required along with details of all the points/money your horse has won in any of the following: BSJA, BE, BD. Details of the Qualifier you are interested in and your availability for that Qualifier and details of when you can help is also required. Each discipline has various restrictions so if we know what you have done we can (hopefully) only enter you in things you are eligible for.

Re Area competitions. Please note:
The rules to qualify have been altered slightly for 2007 so make sure with your Flu certificates, that you let me know your qualifications and the year you got them, together with your horse's details and whether or not they are registered with the relevant discipline i.e. British Eventing.
