Showjumping focus at this year’s BHS Spring Convention
International course designer Steve Williams and top showjumping coach Corinne Bracken will come together to present an enthralling insight into course building and course walking at The British Horse Society’s Spring Convention on 12 March at Bury Farm Equestrian Centre, Buckinghamshire.
Course building is not an easy task and there are many factors to take into account other than just getting the right height jumps for the class in some sort of order. Steve Williams, a highly experienced course designer and builder will be looking at aspects such as well presented jumps for horse and rider, aesthetically pleasing layout for the spectator, sponsorship considerations, limitations of the arena and materials, how much time is there between classes to build the course and much more.
Once the course is built, Corinne Bracken will then demonstrate how to walk the course in order for horse and rider to put in their optimum performance. Corrine will use her knowledge as a BS Accredited Coach and BHS Registered Instructor to teach skills from remembering the course, to how turns into fences should be ridden to get a good line and shave off those important seconds.
This is a day for all levels of rider and coach as the information will be invaluable to both. It should not be missed by showjumping spectators either, as an appreciation of the technicalities of course building and how hard the riders work to put in a good round before they even get on their horse will add to viewing enjoyment.
Tickets are priced £43, BHS Registered Instructors £39. Group discounts are available.
The day counts as a Continual Professional Development (CPD) update for BHS
Registered Instructors. For ticket bookings or further event information please
contact the BHS Training Department on 02476 840510 or training@bhs.org.uk
or visit the website at www.bhs.org.uk.
For further information, please contact: Alison Coleman, The British Horse Society, 02476 840463 or a.coleman@bhs.org.uk
Past events and activities
Battle AGM – this took place at Marsham Farm on 18th January. A lively fun evening, well attended and a lovely meal! Our thanks to the Jones family. A number of things were discussed and good ideas were forthcoming. One was to give our members a ‘Points Make Prizes’ card each so that they can accumulate points over the year for events or competitions they go to. We also plan to allow people who attend training clinics to get points too – after all not everybody wants to compete! The card will be sent out to all members for the discipline they have historically been interested in – but more cards are available for other things too on request.
Organised rides – are taking place either on the beach at Camber ( when tides permit) or elsewhere. The rides are quite sedate – so don’t envisage wild uncontrolled gallops with people leaving by all sorts of exits!! The ride is organised to suit the group.
Maria Green Clinics are taking place regularly at Marsham Farm and are well attended. All types of pole work or jumping for the confident and not so confident! If you have a baby horse or need to boost you and your horse to the next level there is practical and friendly help available. Lovely arena and easy parking.
Jason Webb Coffee morning – pre Christmas event. A freezing morning but great fun and very interesting to see a natural horseman work with assorted youngsters. Mince pies and mulled wine for the non drivers. Interesting ‘stands’ to browse too, shopping and biomechanics / horse physio being one. These are very easy going mornings with no pressure to do anything other than watch and learn while chatting with others. Look out for the emails.

BRIDLEWAYS E-PETITION - PLEASE SIGN
The Government is under pressure from riding groups to equal the
number of bridleways in the country (currently approx 20,000 miles)
up to the same level as footpaths (approx 91,000) miles to help
reduce horses on the road/accidents while promoting outdoor activity
and safe use of the countryside for all sexes and ages.
This will only happen if people sign the
online petition.
Please
click here to sign and help get riders equal rights to walkers/ramblers.
If they get 100,000 signatures they have to do something about it,
so please pass this on to as many people as possible.
We are all busy but it only takes a moment
to sign.
